I was very kindly sent a copy of David VanDrunen’s new book Natural Law: A Short Companion (Brentwood: B&H Academic, 2023), which offers a concise and accessible introduction to the scriptural teaching regarding natural law.
It is not a detailed theory of natural law, but rather an exposition of the scriptural themes that there is a universal moral order which characterises creation, and how humans perceive this order, which are both central to natural law thinking.
The book discusses the relevance of natural law in various spheres of life, including civil government and the public square, and its place in the Christian life. Written in VanDrunen’s typically lucid style, the book is warmly commended for anyone seeking an introduction to the topic of natural law from a biblical perspective.
